Artificial light gives you the possibility to carry out any activity without time limits. In addition, new technologies allow you to control the intensity, temperature and color of light, making any occupation more pleasant, relaxing or productive.

Of course, the opposite is also true: incorrect use of artificial light can strain the body and mind of those who are doing an activity, or are simply spending time in an indoor space. The human being has spent thousands of years regulating his biological and behavioral responses exclusively on sunlight and the alternation between day and night.

Therefore, the internal clock that regulates all the psychophysical aspects of our life, is inevitably influenced by the light or darkness in which we are immersed at every moment of the day. Our mood, concentration, sleep regularity, even digestion, depend more or less directly on how enlightened the environments in which we live.

The intensity of light 

Since it is impossible to fool our internal clock, it is advisable to use artificial lighting that mimics the cycles of solar radiation: more intense in the early hours of the day, and weaker in the evening and night. Modern LED systems allow you to easily adjust these parameters.

The color temperature

This characteristic differentiates the so-called warm lights (tending to yellow-orange) from the cold ones (ice-white) and significantly affects some mechanisms of the body and mind of human beings. 

In fact, warm lights have a relaxing effect, and are therefore suitable for environments intended for rest or living.

Instead, cold lights make the atmosphere more stimulating, increasing attention, concentration and productivity.

The colored lights

The LED systems have definitely made it possible to realize creative solutions of lights of any color, fixed or changing, through traditional points of light or luminous furnishing accessories, adaptable to any environment and occasion.

The tones that are found lower in the scale of the colors, that is from the red to the yellow, evoking moments like the sunrise or the sunset, create an atmosphere welcoming, relaxing, arousing positive emotions. The green, properly adjusting the intensity , will give the environment a sense of peace and tranquility. Instead, the following shades, from blue to purple, can be used to communicate elegance, inspiration, originality.

Most people, especially in western countries, spend many hours of the day indoors, illuminated by artificial light. It is very likely that you also read this article in a room inside a building, in the light of one or more LED lamps, or by taking advantage of the bright screen of your smartphone or PC. 

Following our internal clock, consciously illuminating our spaces, continuously or only for a few occasions, is the easiest way to positively influence our physical and mental well-being.
