The World Design Organization has elected Valencia World Design Capital 2022, confirming the widespread opinion that it is one of the most livable and culturally vibrant cities in Europe.
The program of events designed for the occasion, will show an even wider audience its most creative soul, artistic, communicative.

In fact, it will be attended by the most renowned professionals and companies in the fields of design, architecture, mobility and others, involving Valencia in an unprecedented change.

An initiative designed to go beyond 2022

The program includes over 100 events in 25 different venues, organized through 70 collaboration agreements with 100 public and private entities.

Presentations of professional projects, exhibitions, conferences, meetings with the public and private productions will animate the social, economic and creative fabric of Valencia, with an impact that will exceed 2022.

In fact, design will be the common thread that unites innovation, culture, art and development and transforms them into a tangible, inclusive and sustainable heritage for the city, and its future generations.

Why WDO has chosen Valencia as World Design Capital 2022

The decision of the World Design Organization to appoint Valencia as World Design Capital 2022 is based on the recognized maturity of Valencian design, supported by an extraordinarily active and vital entrepreneurial system.

In Valencia, architectures of different styles and trends have always been harmoniously combined.

For example, the current works of Santiago Calatrava (Science Museum, Palace of Arts, and others), the extraordinary modernist buildings with over a century of history (Central Market, Market de Colón), or the ancient Lonja de la Seda, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996.

In addition there are all the projects in progress: the Valencian Design Archive, the Design District, the Arena Valencia (large multifunctional space for events), and many others.

This creative soul pervades every space and moment of life in Valencia: architecture, culture, leisure, practicability.

The whole history of Valencia revolves around design. In our community there are many companies that successfully experiment new techniques and new markets thanks to design, both in the industrial and artisan field. The challenge, however, is getting to ordinary people who still consider design as something frivolous, superficial, useless.

Finally, a decisive role has been played by the attention paid to environmental issues, which make Valencia an increasingly sustainable and smart city.

In fact, Valencia is the first city in the world to have measured and certified the environmental impact of the entire tourism chain, and aims to become the first zero emission tourist destination by 2025.

An intense and transversal program, able to fascinate every type of audience

The Valencia World Design Capital Programme for 2022 revolves around six central themes: health and well-being, didactics of design, economy and innovation, heritage and identity, environmental sustainability and equity, inclusion and diversity.

The main events are expected to attract around 130 thousand visitors, and will all take place in the second half of the year:
