According to Sikkens experts, the color of the year 2022 is the Bright Skies, and will feature the main trends in furniture, fashion and design.
It was chosen in collaboration with the team of specialists in the evolution of color trends at the Akzonobel Global Aesthetic Center, assisted by an international group of independent experts.

In fact, thanks to thirty years of experience in the analysis of the world’s socio-economic trends, since 2004 every year the Akzonobel Global Aesthetic Center identifies the color that most represents the historical moment we are going through.

So for 2022, according to Sikkens color scholars, the shade that most of all seems to identify the chromatic needs of today’s society, is the Bright Skies.

The most faithful expression of the need for positivity and freedom

Sikkens’s Bright Skies is a light and airy blue shade.

It expresses the global need for positivity and represents the desire to breathe freely again, after the long period of pandemic.

This delicate and impalpable nuance immediately evokes images of open spaces and serene skies, and re-proposes them within the home.

In fact, the Bright Skies seems particularly suitable for painting walls, but also as the main color for the fabrics of curtains and other furnishing accessories.

The evolution of the concept of housing

Experts from Sikkens and the Akzonobel Global Aesthetic Center have recognized the beginning of a profound transformation of the way of conceiving the home.

In fact, according to a trend that does not seem to slow down, houses are no longer places used only for residential purposes, but perform an increasing number of functions.

Just think of the increasingly frequent practices of smart-working or teaching at a distance, which involve the destination of living spaces to work and study.

Or the increasingly widespread diffusion of forms of telematic entertainment, such as streaming video games or the various digital television channels, intended for users of all ages.

For this reason, the shade of the Bright Skies, light, soft and restful, makes the time spent in the home even more pleasant and relaxing for body and mind.

At the same time, it helps not to disperse the creative energies, maintaining the concentration necessary to study and work at the best of the possibilities.

The combinations proposed by Sikkens to correctly match the Bright Skies

The Bright Skies is a quite desaturated light blue, with a cool undertone, rather versatile and simple to match, even to different styles of furniture and environments.

To facilitate the choice, the team of experts at Sikkens has identified four palettes, each inspired by a different mood, but all very effective and impactful.

The Workshop palette is designed especially for study and work environments, at home or in the office; includes warm and energetic colors complementary of the Bright Skies, such as brick red and ochre.

The Greenhouse palette is based on natural shades, particularly suitable for the living room; it has natural tones typical of the outdoors such as green, blue and brown.

The Studio palette was created to make more relaxing any environment of the house; is composed of shades such as beige, lilac, pink and other pastel shades.

The Salon palette is the most suitable solution for chromatically dividing the different environments of the open-spaces, and offers a range of neutral colors that highlight the Bright Skies or colored furniture.
